Mr. Reiss Goes into Politics
Marion Reiss
This book is a chronicle of Harry Reiss’s political career in the Town of Ramapo. From the time he entered into public life, his wife Marion saved all manner of newspaper clippings, sample political paraphernalia, speeches, and letters of endorsement and congratulations.
The Town of Ramapo is a microcosm of the layers of government peculiar to the Federal system of government in the United States. Crisscrossed by election districts encompassing five levels of government, the town is a case in point.
Instead of seeming formidable, it was a felicitous opportunity for Harry to put into practice, and even preach, what he had been teaching as an Adjunct Professor of Political Science at Rockland Community College for decades.
This is the story about the journey and triumph of one man, Harry Reiss, through the quagmire of Ramapo politics to his ascendancy and success as Town Councilman.
There is an old adage that all politics is local, and this story is as local as politics can get.
